After years of construction and $60 million invested, Porsche now has a new Experience Center in California. Located on the 405-Freeway in Carson, California, convenient to three of the Los Angeles area airports, the 53-acre facility is second such facility after $100 million investment in its North American Headquarter in Atlanta in 2015. These facilities represents the largest investments for Porsche outside Germany to date.
Out of the 51,756 Porsche vehicles sold by Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) last year 12,016 were sold in California accounting for 23% of sales in the US. So the new Experience Center in Los Angeles was obvious choice for Porsche.
According to Porsche website the 4.1 miles Experience Center features a handling circuit that is designed to mimic a challenging country road. There is a section called The Kick Plate, which features a hydraulic plate on the ground that initiates a loss of traction to induce sliding situations. A seven-percent slope serves as the section called Ice Hill, which also has computer-controlled water jets to make the surface technically challenging. A skidpad and low-friction handling section will let you get your drift on, while a long Acceleration Straight lets you hit some high speeds before entering a replica of the Nürburgring’s Karussell. And finally, an Off-Road Course for Cayenne.
The facility also features 6000 sq. feet of main event space, collection of historic Porsche race cars, meeting spaces along with a fine dining restaurant.
