Amazon is opening a 30,000 square- meter logistics center in Martorelles in Catalonia. This center in Martorelles will renovate existing building and the new warehouse will create 650 jobs over the next three years. The new warehouse will just not focus on one specific area unlike other Amazon’s other facilities such as the Castellbisbal center. Beginning its operation in the autumn of 2017 with a staff of 200 people, The Martorelles center recruitment process is beginning in the coming months.
According to Amazon, the company has chosen Martorelles because of the location; it is very close to key markets in southern Europe and also has access to excellent human capital. The new warehouses are a response to the growing demand for its European websites and widens the product availability in its warehouses.
Amazon’s Director of Operations for Spain and Italy stated that the Martorelles facility will support the international expansion of various small local businesses that sell their products through Amazon. This warehouse will be an addition to Amazon’s European logistics network which expands across seven countries and consists of 31 centers.
