Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Expands to Colombo, Sri Lanka
In January of this year (2016), The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. (BTMU), the commercial arm of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) started its operation at the BTMU Colombo Representative Office. This is the first time a Japanese bank has started operations in Sri Lanka. According to the CEO of BTMU Asia & Oceania, Japanese direct investment in Sri Lanka has been growing over the years, hence the establishment of their branch office allows them to support such investment.
BTMU currently has eight offices in South Asia, including now in Colombo. Other branches include:
- India: Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Neemrana
- Pakistan: Karachi
- Bangladesh: Dhaka
- Sri Lanka: Colombo
