Equinix Inc is investing in data center known as TY5 in the Japanese capital, Tokyo. According to the their press release, “the new $43 million facility will support strong demand from local and global enterprises including financial services firms, as well as cloud and content providers who are increasingly relying on data center colocation and interconnection services in Tokyo.” Equinix calls its data center – International Business Exchange™ (IBX®).
In 2016, Equinix has opened four new IBX data centers in Dallas, São Paulo, Sydney and Tokyo. In 2015, Equinix acquired Bit-isle, a leading Japanese data center and managed service provider which lead Platform Equinix to be available across 111 data centers in 33 markets around the world.
Earlier in 2016, Equinix acquired Telecity Group and its 40 data centers doubling Equinix’s capacity in Europe.
Equinix is a US based publicly traded company that provides data centers, colocation, interconnection solutions and related services to enterprises, content companies, systems integrators and 1,100+ network service providers worldwide. Equinix was founded in 1998 in Redwood City, California and in 2015 generated revenue of US$ 2.73 Billion. As of December 2015, it has 5012 employees (which has likely changed based on current acquisition/expansion).
