Swedish home furnishing retailer -IKEA – is set to open a 340,000 square foot customer distribution center in Richmond, British Columbia (Vancouver metro area) in April of 2018. The investment will create approximately 100 new jobs.
According to IKEA’s press release, IKEA Canada plans to double in size by 2025. A new store is slated to open this (2017) fall in Halifax, followed by a store in Quebec City in summer 2018. The Vancouver area Customer Distribution Centre will be the third IKEA distribution centre in Canada. The retailer also operates facilities in the Montreal and Toronto areas.
IKEA (Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd) is a multinational group, headquartered in the Netherlands, that designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture, kitchen appliances and home accessories. It was founded in Sweden in 1943 by then-17-year-old Ingvar Kamprad.
The company is known for its modern architectural designs for various types of appliances and furniture, and its interior design work is often associated with an eco-friendly simplicity. As of December 2016, IKEA owns and operates 392 stores in 48 countries. IKEA generated a revenue of US$ 40.72 billion in 2016.
